Day 1: Arrival in Bangalore and Transfer to Mysore, including a visit to Mysore Palace
Upon your arrival at Bangalore Airport or Railway Station, we will assist you with your transfer to Mysore. After approximately 3.5 hours, we will reach the enchanting “City of Palaces,” where the echoes of ancient monuments and ruins await your discovery. We will check you into your hotel, allowing you some time to unwind before embarking on a half-day sightseeing adventure.
Following our initial exploration, we will proceed to the magnificent Mysore Palace, also referred to as the Maharaja’s Palace. This breathtaking three-story royal abode is enveloped by tranquil gardens, once the cherished residence of the Wadiyars. Constructed from exquisite gray granite and opulent pink marble, the palace is a sight to behold. Our journey will also take us to the Jaganmohan Palace, an art gallery established during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III in 1861. This gallery boasts the largest collection of artifacts in South India. We will also visit the Mysore Zoo (closed on Tuesdays), which was originally founded by Chamaraja Wodeyar X as a private zoo in 1892. It is home to a diverse array of animals and is one of the oldest zoos in the country. Notably, the Mysore Zoo is the only zoo in India to house a Gorilla, along with Chimpanzees and Orangutans. Other exotic creatures residing in the Mysore Zoo include Giraffes, Zebras, White Deer, African Elephants, Bears, Porcupines, Rhinoceros, Tapirs, Otters, and more.

Our journey commences at the Mysore Zoo, an expansive 157-acre sanctuary that is home to a diverse array of wildlife and exotic animals. As we approach this remarkable destination, the Chamundi Hills grace the landscape, enhancing the view of one of the oldest zoos in the nation. Notably, it is the sole zoo in India to house a gorilla, alongside orangutans and chimpanzees, making it a favored attraction in Mysore. Families cherish the opportunity to spend quality, educational moments here with their children, introducing them to a variety of animals including giraffes, zebras, African elephants, bears, white deer, tapirs, otters, and many more.
Following our visit to the zoo, we shall proceed to the Mysore Palace, also revered as the Maharaja’s Palace, a historical gem that once served as the residence of the Wadiyars. This magnificent monument is among the most frequented sites in Mysore, showcasing extraordinary architectural marvels and housing remarkable artifacts from a bygone era. Surrounded by lush greenery, the palace is primarily constructed from exquisite grey granite stones and adorned with pink marble domes. A striking 145-foot gilded gold tower majestically overlooks this beloved five-story abode of the Wadiyars.
Our next destination is Chamundi Hills, renowned for its lofty elevation and the sacred Chamundeshwari Temple nestled within. Our journey to Hassan will include a visit to Halebidu, renowned for the Halebidu Temple, a remarkable testament to the architectural prowess of the Hoysala dynasty. We will explore the museum, which showcases an array of exquisite statues and sculptures unearthed from the surrounding areas. Just a short distance away lies Belur, a picturesque town celebrated for the Chennakeshava Temple, where devotees honor Lord Vishnu. Wander through the medieval castles and uncover the rich heritage of the royal families that once ruled from this magnificent palace.
Next, visit the Sri Radha Krishna Temple, a mere 15-minute drive from the palace, which stands as one of the largest ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) temples globally. This grand structure spares no expense in utilizing only the finest materials, including granites, marbles, and glass imported from Korea.
The Venkatappa Art Gallery is a sanctuary for art enthusiasts, boasting a rich collection and stunning architecture. Take a leisurely stroll among the sculpted displays while enjoying the pleasant outdoor climate, or venture into the indoor galleries that showcase at least 600 paintings, some dating back to 2000 BC.
Lastly, the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum is a key attraction in Bangalore, particularly favored by children for its numerous interactive exhibits. Nestled within Cubbon Park, this museum was inaugurated in 1962 and is dedicated to showcasing scientific and technological advancements, industrial products, and the evolution of engineering. We shall embark on a journey to the Lal Bagh Botanical Garden, a stunning oasis where an abundance of red roses flourish throughout the year. Formerly known as the Rose and Cypress Garden, it is easy to understand why this place is often referred to as ‘The City of Gardens.’ The Lal Bagh Botanical Garden proudly stands as one of South Asia’s most diverse botanical gardens, steeped in history since its establishment in 1760.
Next, we will visit the legendary Nandi Temple, the Dodda Basavana Gudi, also known as the Bull Temple, nestled within the serene Bugle Rock Park. This ancient temple is renowned as the largest Nandi Temple in the world, featuring a magnificent statue of the sacred vahana bull of Krishna positioned just outside the entrance. According to local lore, the land was once fertile, yielding bountiful harvests of groundnuts and peanuts. However, the bull’s destructive tendencies became increasingly problematic, prompting the locals to construct a temple in its honor. This act of devotion proved effective, leading to the establishment of a festival known as the groundnut fair or Kadelakai Parase, where the harvests are offered to Nandi.
Our next destination will be the illustrious Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, celebrated for its exquisite Indo-Islamic architecture. This splendid structure once served as the summer retreat for the Mysorean ruler, Tipu Sultan.
